A safe place, Chios

£210 funded

Your support will allow us to continue providing a safe place to live for individuals struggling with mental health problems. They’re forgotten by the system and having a stable home gives them a fairer chance of navigating the complex asylum system.

The money will be spent on a month’s rent and utilities for a suitable apartment to house highly vulnerable people. That is, torture victims, those with severe mental health problems and/or learning difficulties. The UNHCR deems these people as “vulnerable”, however, owing to overcrowding and insufficient resources, not everyone is appropriately accommodated. Vial, the only remaining camp for asylum seekers on Chios is overcrowded, unsafe and removed from the town centre and hospital. The lack of privacy and safety is extremely challenging for anyone, and especially difficult for people with severe mental health problems.

Make a donation today and you will be helping to keep the especially vulnerable safe. Thank you.

Feed a community, France

£1,000 funded

As public interest moves to other areas, the refugees of Calais and Dunkirk are struggling without even the most basic essentials.  The Refugee Community Kitchen (RCK) provides nourishing meals for refugees and supports the tireless work of aid workers. But funds and supplies are running critically low.  This fundraising plea is for the most basic and important of human needs – food.

“The average price of a meal is just 50p and from that, we can create nourishing, wholesome, filling food that will keep refugees going.  Raising £1,000 will enable us to feed more than 600 people a day. Simply, you will be saving lives by donating to this most important of causes.”  Cecelia, Refugee Community Kitchen volunteer.

Your donation will be so gratefully received by a group desperate to help refugees, in an area that is being forgotten by the world’s spotlight.  Thank you.

Ramadan Food Packs, Chios

£1,000 funded

Food at the refugee camps is scarce and often poor quality.  With Ramadan approaching humanitarian organisation Refugee Biriyani & Bananas would like to provide refugees with decent food packs that will bring them some comfort and peace.

Ruhi Akhtar, founder of Refugee Biriyani & Bananas says, “We so often hear the words ‘food is no good’ at Vial Camp.  We hear stories of food poisoning, of maggots in the food, of parents crying as they can’t feed their children decent food. With the money provided by Donate4Refugees, we will be able to provide 450 food packs during the Ramadan week of 1st-7th May 2018 – that’s enough food for 1,600 people. This will allow refugees to honour their holy festival with dignity and hope.”

Support this campaign with a donation today. On behalf of the families of Vial Camp, thank you so much for your support.

Heating Oil, Lavrio

£200 funded

Last Sunday the existing supply of heating oil for the 40 residents, families, of Lavrio camp ran out. Since then they have only cold running water.

“Abandoned by the authorities, Afghan camp in Lavrio has run out of heating oil. Residents include two infants and a newborn baby. They urgently need a new supply of heating oil.” – Rando, Founder of One Human Race

Thank you for your support.

Washing Facilities, Lesvos

£2,100 funded

There are currently no washing machine facilities for the residents of Moria Refugee Camp. Help us provide six 8kg machines in a brand new, much-needed initiative for Lesvos.

Showers for Sisters will be a wonderful place for refugee women from Moria Camp to shower, wash their clothes, and relax in a peaceful environment. The project, run by women for women, will soon be providing clean towels, luxurious Lush products (donated by Lush Cosmetics), hot running water and a private place to to simply be still.

“These washing machines are an integral part of our new Showers for Sisters project which will give dignity and compassion through both cleanliness and the time to relax and enjoy the lovely sea view.” – James, Founder of our on-the-ground partner RESPOND.

Thank you for your support which means a huge amount to the women of Moria.

Start-Up Essentials, Athens

£400 funded

There are over 7000 displaced persons currently residing in Athens, Greece, with more arriving daily. As we progress in 2018 there remains no plan for how to integrate, employ and/or further educate these people within Greek society.

The ANKAA Project looks to address these issues by encouraging individuals to build with the tools that they have, rather than the cards they have been dealt.

ANKAA is not a community centre, it is a professional environment that aims to empower people living the experience, allowing them to reclaim control of their lives.

“This money will buy renovation material; such as partitioning wall material, window glass, plumbing materials for the addition of one more toilet and kitchen drainage. Basic cleaning products and shipping / removal costs for transporting material goods (donated previously by Hero Centre and Chios Creative Centre) from Chios to Athens.” – Billie, ANKAA Project

Thank you for your support.

£600 funded

One Human Race is a small organisation with a big mission – to help refugees live in safety and peace. Your donation will go towards feeding and clothing more than 390 refugees for a month.

“This money will buy 400 pieces of flat bread, 800 pieces of fruit, and underwear and socks for 250 people. These are basic yet essential items that can mean a world of difference to those in most need” Rando, volunteer in Greece

Thank you for your support.

Calais laundry launch

£390 funded

Anyone who’s spent time volunteering in Calais will have seen the need for laundry facilities. New donations sometimes come in dirty and, once donations are used it’s almost impossible for people sleeping rough to get them cleaned. Your donation will go towards launching this vital service.

“This money will buy essential parts to ensure the set-up and running of the new laundry in Calais that will ultimately benefit up to 1,000 vulnerable people as well as saving precious donations from going to waste.” – Brian, Chorleywood 4 Refugees.

Thank you for your support.

Aid distribution centre, Lesvos

£1,300 funded

Help pay a months’ rent for the House of Humanity Day Centre in Lesvos, Greece

Basic human dignity can be as simple as giving someone the chance to choose food and clothes for themselves. Humans 4 Humanity is a remarkable organisation which offers residents of Lesvos’ refugee camps the opportunity to go shopping using points. Your donation will help pay March’s rent on their supermarket and clothing boutique. It will keep the shop doors open for up to 50 families a day. That’s the equivalent of helping more than 3,000 people a month.

The main focus at Humans 4 Humanity is delivering aid in a way that enhances human dignity and well-being. There is a wealth of research that shows freedom, autonomy and choice enhances human happiness and we recognise that these are missing for individuals during the process of displacement. The ‘shopping’ style method of aid delivery helps us accomplish these objectives through our free food supermarket, which is run on a points system, and free clothing boutique where families can shop for the items they want and need. We also have a cafe; kids play area; cinema; a 5-a-side astro-turf football field and an arts and crafts area.” Leah, on the ground volunteer.

Your donation will enable our on-the-ground partner, The Blue Door Project, and Humans 4 Humanity to continue feeding and clothing 50 refugee families in need each day.

A safe place, Chios

£350 funded

Help pay for a months’ apartment rent for highly vulnerable refugees in Chios, Greece

The asylum process can be extremely difficult to navigate, especially for highly vulnerable individuals such as those have been tortured or who experience severe mental health problems.  Refugee camps can be overcrowded and unsafe and simply not suitable for vulnerable individuals, leaving them without accommodation.

We provide a safe place for individuals who are often forgotten by the system. Our rented apartment provides a stable home that gives people struggling with mental health problems a fairer chance to navigate the complicated asylum process. Help us to accommodate up to 10 people for a month – that’s 10 vulnerable people who can live safely and with dignity thanks to you.”  Niamh, volunteer on-the-ground.

Your donation will be used by our on-the-ground partners, AccessChios, to keep this vital facility open and welcoming to vulnerable refugees.  Thank you.

Emergency legal aid, Chios

£2,000 funded

Help file appeals against the unfair refusals of Greek asylum claims

Volunteer lawyers in Chios assist refugees with legal representation during the often traumatic asylum claim process. However, errors, lack of preparation and poor communication between the authorities and clients can lead to refusals of cases that should be accepted. These experienced volunteers work with especially vulnerable individuals to help them navigate such complexities.

We are working with six high-risk refugees on the asylum procedure and assisting with 10 deported refugees. All of them are desperate to get some stability and an understanding of their options.  These funds will go towards court costs and translations for filing correct documentation for them.” Xandy, on-the-ground volunteer.

Your donation will enable our on-the-ground partner, Emergency Legal Aid – Chios (ELA), to continue its important work helping vulnerable refugees access legal services.

Fire wood, Chios

£500 funded

Fire wood is a vital resource in refugee camps. Wood burning stoves provide heat, light and cooking fuel, and also a sense of community as people gather around the fire to spend time together.

“Fire is one of humanity’s most basic requirements. When wood is scarce, people in the camp are forced to try to source it themselves. But in winter wood is wet and difficult to light and the trees are slippery and dangerous. Sadly, they also encounter problems with the police and with local agitators who try to prevent them from getting wood safely.” Ruhi, volunteer in Chios.

Flatbread for Lavrio II Camp, Greece

£200 funded

In a small, seemingly forgotten camp, 90 refugees from Syria, Iraq and Iran live in a perpetual state of need.  The simplicity of this campaign belies a a very important cause – by donating, you are giving refugees a nutritious meal and much more.

“Giving to this campaign will enable me to buy 600 bags of Arabic flat bread which will last 2 weeks.  It sounds simple, but bread is a staple of these refugees’ diet – and it also represents a tiny slice of their former lives. Thank you for your generosity.” Rando, founder of One Human Race

Household essentials, Athens

£500 funded

Life for refugees is hard in every way. It doesn’t always look like camps and tents. Even when they have secured temporary housing in private housing, there is little help with basics like food and living essentials. Your donation will purchase groceries and other essential household goods for 21 refugees living in flats in Athens.

Give today and provide refugees with the support they need to live in a humane, dignified way – DONATE.

Recycled power banks, Dunkirk, France

Target £400

Being connected to family, friends, aid organisations and support networks is not a luxury. For refugees, it is a vital necessity.  Having a power bank to charge mobile phones and other equipment can mean the difference between isolation and real help.  Your donation will allow specialist charity Roots to buy crucial equipment which will lower the cost of creating recycled power banks and allow 25% more power to be distributed.

Working with Mobile Refugee Support and the Dunkirk Refugee Women’s Centre, our power banks are a vital lifeline to men, women and families at Grande-Synthe/ Dunkirk. But on March 31st, these centres are expected to close and their current occupants evicted and forced to sleep rough once again as they were last summer. Before this occurs, we aim to provide one power bank per family in order to give them an emergency power-source. This money will enable us to buy the equipment we need to supply more than 1,000 refugees with power. Our long-term aim is to create cleaner, more cost-effective solutions, that can charge more devices over a shorter period and for less money. It is a unique service and one we hope makes a real difference to people as they face new challenges“. Tom, Roots founder

Warehouse4Warmth, Lesvos, Greece

Target £2,350

When refugees arrive in Lesvos, they often have only the clothes on their back. And these are usually wet and damaged from the journey and simply not warm enough for the summer tents of Moria Refugee Camp. Your donation will help fund three months’ rental for the warehouse which stocks warm clothing, footwear, sleeping bags and other essentials for refugees.

“On 24 December, when so many others were enjoying the joy of Christmas, 556 refugees flooded into the warehouse to get winter clothes. This warehouse is a lifeline for refugees, a place where they can find warmth and dignity. Giving this to them feels like the best present ever. Help us rent this facility for another three months so we can carry on providing basic essentials” – Omar, volunteer in Lesvos

Transport for refugee families in Lesbos, Greece

£1,000 funded

Can you help refugees stuck in the over-crowded Moria refugee camp in Lesbos, Greece?

Our van hire expired five days’ ago and the sponsor for this month has over-committed and been forced to pull out. Can you help? The dates its covering is December 16 to January 16. Our mini van is so critical to our operations transporting both humans and aid. Every day we collect families from Moria and bring them to our centre for food and clothes distributions, and also some relaxing time out from the stress of camp living.” Neda, volunteer in Lesbos

Emergency shelter in Chios

£350 funded

Can you help very vulnerable refugees on the over-crowded island of Chios be sheltered safely in a rented flat for a month?

“The only official camp on Chios, Vial, is extremely over-crowded and new arrivals are being accommodated in UNHCR tarpaulin sprawls outside of the main camp enclosure. The extra strain on resources and the lack of transport for the 20+ kms from Vial to the town means that this provision of emergency shelter is more important than ever.” – Niamh, volunteer in Chios

£2,000 funded

Can you help us provide fresh fruit and vegetables, bought from small, family-run local grocery stores, to the residents of three refugee camps in Greece?

Our philosophy is aid with dignity and so we distribute through shop-like mini-markets and are proud to offer plenty choice – over 100 lines. Even so, fresh food remains ever popular. Boat Landings Appeal, Lesvos, Greece

£2,500 funded

Usually we would handle arrivals in north Lesvos for a single night – that is landing, transporting, cooking, cleaning and sheltering. But all camps on Lesvos are over-crowded and, as of mid September, we have been asked to accommodate all arrivals on the island for 2-3 days until space can be freed-up in the main camps. Meanwhile, arrivals are increasing. There have been 1,800 people arrive on Lesvos in the last three weeks, so the estimate for October is up to 2,700.
