Cricket!

Guest blog by our partners FORGE for Humanity about their new project FORGE for Cricket

“I am so proud seeing these photos that I have been able to help :).”

From Sandra who donated a significant amount of the kit thanks to an introduction to Donate4Refugees from the very lovely Friends of Refugees Bedfordshire. Donate4Refugees doesn’t collect aid themselves, but they couldn’t be happier to answer the brilliant Clare Websters’ call and reach out to their network to connect great people wanting to help inspiring projects.

INTRODUCING FORGE FOR CRICKET 🏏🏃‍♂️

Over the last few months, Nasir (with amazing support from Clare) has been working hard on a new FORGE initiative - a formal sports program for his peers, which aims to bring cricket to the local community in Athens and through it, create a positive activity for both players and spectators.

Having played on a semi-professional team back home, Nasir already had the necessary knowledge and, since February, has been collecting donations of equipment and kit, finding a pitch to play on, and beginning training with the team.

Thanks to generous donations from The Lord's Taverners, Ampthill Town Cricket Club, Serious Cricket and Cricket East, the boys participated in their first mini tournament yesterday against 2 other teams, and we went along to cheer them on!

Please go over and like their Facebook page and show your support for this fantastic new initiative.

Our awesome ‘Van Man’ - Angus from Herts for Refugees - collected the kit from Sandra to start its journey to Athens. Next stop Mondial shipping where transport costs were generously paid by Julie and our friends at Friends of Refugees Bedfordshire. (Don’t you just love a beautiful collaboration 💖)
